Episode 003: SYNC Talk - The Naiad of Fashion Consciousness & Consulting; Gabriella Smith
Fashion Upcycling Non Profiteer
Meet the wonderful and tres chic Gabriella Smith. She is an inspiring fashion industry professional on the challenging road of teaching and creating ethical closets. She is the founder of The Upcycle Project, a nonprofit organization and agency that focuses on fashion sustainability education and consulting. They dare to educate, inspire, disrupt, and change all of our lives. Their current project has created masks out of recycled materials and are available for sale on their website at www.upstylefoundation.com. Gabriella is also a TedX speaker, link below. I highly recommend hearing her out. She is also the Regional Director Elect for FGI South Florida, an international group leading global, non profit, professional organization in the fashion industry.
Mel and Gabriella discuss Gabriella's experiences that created a pathway down this challenging field. Her mission started several years before "sustainable" was a common workplace term for fashion. A term that is often overused while still being underutilized in the fashion industry. She is on a wild ride to making a difference. Her childhood, life lessons, and experience as a mother have opened her eyes to the importance of setting good examples, creating smart and mindful brands, leading students and professionals alike, and creating processes for people to participate in sustainable fashion. Her kind hearted laugh and intellectual perspectives and research are just two of the many reasons you will love this episode. Her notes about how to become a conscious consumer at the end, will be lasting and hopefully drive change in all listener's lives.
